Your Body. Your Movement. Your True Form.

The Pilates-Based Approach

Why Pilates as a rehabilitation method?

As a physical therapist, I strongly believe that movement is medicine. As with medicine, it is crucial to find the correct form that works in sync with your body as opposed to fighting against it. Pilates does just that. Grounded in control, precision, and coordination, Pilates is the perfect foundation to accompany a comprehensive rehabilitation plan as you will build a deeper connection to your body by enhancing your perception of how your body moves.

The 6 Principles of Pilates

  • The use of your breath to facilitate movement and enhance the connection between the mind and the body.

  • Centering focuses on the core which is also referred to as the “powerhouse” in the Pilates world. Your powerhouse includes the musculature of the abdomen, low back, and hips. This is the axis of your movement.

  • Giving 100% of your mental effort and focus to each exercise to ensure proper form.

  • Moving with intension. The principle of control ensures that every movement/exercise is performed with deliberate control.

  • Pilates is a “quality over quantity” practice of movement. Each movement has intension and should be performed with purpose as opposed to emphasizing the number of repetitions.

  • Every movement should flow into the next with a sense of continuous motion.
